Johnson attacked for rushed closures

BULLINGDON boy Boris Johnson was accused yesterday of rushing through hundreds of London Underground ticket office closures without regard to safety.

Passengers at South Wimbledon and Queensway were among the first victims of a closure programme that will see 256 station facilities shut for good.

Hundreds of staff are also set to go.

Tube union RMT general secretary Mick Cash said the London mayor had “ripped up the safety rule book” by pushing forward the plans while talks continued over the implications.

He predicted the plans would turn the network into a “criminals’ paradise.”

Vowing to continue the fight against a closure programme that has already sparked strike action, Mr Cash said: “All industrial and political options remain at our disposal.”

Rail union TSSA general secretary Manuel Cortes said: “Londoners will be left facing ever higher bills and inflation-plus Tube fares for the next 18 years while he swans off back to House of Commons.”

Mr Johnson is standing for Parliament in Uxbridge and South Ruislip.
