Boko Haram takes heavy losses on two fronts

GROUND troops and warplanes from Nigeria, Chad and Cameroon united to fight Boko Haram on at least two fronts today with hundreds of jihadist fighters reported dead.

Chad’s army said that its troops had been attacked in Cameroon on Tuesday after hundreds of fighters driven out of Nigeria crossed the border.

“Our valiant forces responded vigorously, a chase was immediately instituted all the way to their base at Gamboru and Ngala (in Nigeria), where they were completely wiped out,” spokesman Colonel Azem Bermendoa said.

More than 200 extremists and nine Chadian troops were killed, he said.

Meanwhile, warplanes from Nigeria and Chad pursued a bombing campaign that has forced Boko Haram from more than a dozen towns in north-east Nigeria where it declared an Islamic caliphate in August.
