CREWS on the Tring to London railway may strike after a railwayman of 30 years was suspended over “a string of trumped-up charges.”
Rail union RMT announced yesterday that it would ballot for walkouts over the “shocking” victimisation of Watford platform attendant Steve Caldwell, who was sent home for four months and then transferred to a station miles away.
Despite initial charges being withdrawn “Steve has still ended up being punished in an action which makes a mockery of the principles of natural justice,” said RMT leader Mick Cash.
London Midland said: “We were disappointed and surprised that RMT would announce a ballot while an appeal is still being heard.”
