GERMANY: German climate activists sprayed orange paint onto Berlin’s Brandenburg Gate this morning to urge the government to take more urgent action against climate change.

Members of the group The Last Generation used fire extinguishers filled with paint to spray all six columns of the popular landmark in Germany’s capital.

The group's priorities include getting Germany to stop using all fossil fuels by 2030.

COLOMBIA: Four soldiers were killed during a shoot-out with dissidents at Cumbitara in the Narino department with members of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, authorities said on Saturday.

The four soldiers, named as Lieutenant Jose Rafael Martinez Morelo, Juan Carlos Silva Argumedo, Jean Carlos Yaguara Yepez and Jhan Carlos Sandoval, were taking part in an operation against a Farc dissident front.

TURKEY: President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Turkey may part ways with the European Union, implying that the country is thinking about ending its bid to join the 27-nation bloc.

“The EU is making efforts to sever ties with Turkey,” he told reporters before departing for the 78th UN General Assembly in New York.

“We will evaluate the situation, and if needed we will part ways with the EU.”

SOUTH KOREA: Thousands of school teachers and staff rallied in Seoul on Saturday for more legal protection from bullying by parents, a rising problem in a country known for its brutally competitive school environments.

The weekend demonstrations were triggered by the death of a teacher who was found dead at her elementary school in July after reportedly expressing emotional distress caused by complaints from allegedly abusive parents.
