There is clearly no love lost between Paul Lambert and Jose Mourinho.
Back in September Lambert refused to shake Mourinho’s hand before the full-time whistle in Chelsea’s 3-0 win at Stamford Bridge.
And the Aston Villa manager was again angered following a heated exchange midway through the first half of Saturday’s game against Chelsea.
The home side had fallen behind to an Eden Hazard goal after just eight minutes before Jores Okore levelled things up just after half time, ending his side’s run of 659 minutes without a Premier League goal.
Branislav Ivanovic restored the Blues’ lead on 66 minutes to secure a vital win with nearest rivals Manchester City only managing a draw at home to Hull City.
But it was the confrontation with an unnamed member of the Chelsea backroom staff that infuriated Lambert.
“It was something said but not by Jose,” said the Villa manager.
“He is a great manager, it is fantastic what the guy has done. I would love to learn from him as a football manager but I wouldn’t like to learn things off the pitch from somebody in his dugout.
“I don’t know what was said — I don’t speak Portuguese, maybe he doesn’t speak Glaswegian.”
After the game the Chelsea manager claimed that he hadn’t seen what had happened, instead opting to praise the opposition.
He said: “I analyse teams by the quality of players and Villa have one of the best squads, very good players and a very good bench, lots of solutions.
“It was a very difficult game, the stadium is a difficult place to go and sooner or later Villa had to score and they did it today.”
However Lambert questioned his opposite number’s comments, saying: “Maybe he is trying to put pressure on me, I don’t know.”
He added: “I went to shake his (Mourinho’s) hand, but Jose was halfway down the pitch so I didn’t get a chance.”
The victory was the first in five attempts for the Chelsea manager at Villa Park as the London club extended their lead at the top of the table to seven points.
