Bombers in Baghdad kill at least 22

BOMB attacks in Baghdad killed at least 22 people and wounded dozens today after the government lifted a night curfew in place since 2004.

Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi lifted the midnight-5am curfew in the capital on Saturday night.

Early in the rush-hour a bomber set off an explosive vest in a busy intersection crowded with commuters, killing at least 18 people.

The bombing in Adan Square, a predominantly Shi’ite part of the capital, also wounded 42 people.

Hours later, a bomb ripped through a commercial area in the north-eastern suburb of Husseiniyah.

Baghdad has struggled to impose security following the 2011 US withdrawal, since when Islamic State has claimed several attacks in the capital and seized a third of the country.
