Mother of murdered Nikki Allan to sue police after 31-year wait for justice

THE mother of murdered seven-year-old Nikki Allan has vowed to take legal action against Northumbria Police after waiting 31 years for her killer to be brought to justice.

Sharon Henderson never gave up her fight for justice after the force charged an innocent man, George Heron, with her murder only for his trial to collapse when a confession obtained from three days of oppressive questioning was ruled inadmissible.

Following a DNA breakthrough, convicted paedophile David Boyd, 55, was  jailed in May for a minimum of 29 years for luring Nikki to a derelict building where he left her for dead after stabbing and hitting her with bricks in October 1992.

Ms Henderson told BBC Newsnight: “I was treated really badly by the police.”

Her solicitor Harriet Wistrich has written to chief constable Vanessa Jardine, to inform her of the legal action, and to Police and Crime Commissioner Kim McGuinness, asking for a formal inquiry into the case.
