Activists deliver giant presents to Norwegian embassy in protest of £3.75bn oil and tax breaks

CLIMATE activists delivered giant presents to the Norwegian embassy in London today, representing the £3.75 billion tax breaks developers of the North Sea’s Rosebank field could receive.

Norway’s state-backed oil and gas giant Equinor is among the firms set to rake in huge profits while the taxpayer picks up almost all the costs of the development.

Equinor made £62 million last year and only a fifth of the oil from Rosebank is likely to be retained in Britain, reports say.

Joanna Warrington was among the protesters from Fossil Free London who chanted: “No tax breaks for big oil” as they delivered the giant presents wrapped in Union Jacks and large bows.

She accused Rishi Sunak of this week “falling over himself to declare his love for the oil industry.

“Millions of people are struggling with the cost of living crisis — and this winter, millions more will face fuel poverty,” she said.

“Yet the Prime Minister prefers to line the bulging pockets of Equinor’s oil execs, instead of helping ordinary people.”
