Marmozets at the Electric Ballroom, London NW1/Touring
FROM the outset alternative rockers Marmozets deliver a mind-to-body blow-out and it’s everything a punter would want from a live gig.
After the deafening force of Move, Shake, Hide crashing in, Is It Horrible cranks up the savage mood and Love You Good turns sweet things vicious as the band quickly stoke up the pressure.
This is a no compromise, high-velocity affair with vocals straight from singer Becca Macintyre’s heart, solid-state drumming by Josh Macintyre at breakneck speed, raging and mathematical chord patterning from Sam Macintyre and Jack Bottomley on guitar and power-driving riffs blasted out from Will Bottomley on bass.
The fast tracks at the opening give way to more progressively complex numbers like the colossal Vibetech, Broken Reflection and Particle. Mayhem ensues, tempered by a something of a pressure drop for the band’s anthems Captivate You and Why Do You Hate Me?
In Back To You Macintyre’s delivery offers a beguiling mix ranging as she lets rip and orchestrates the crowd as they lose it, body surf and join in on her vocals.
MacIntyre (pictufred) and the band are the real deal and they’re now establishing themselves as this year’s model of defiant angst.
A must-see outfit, well worth catching on tour.
