MEN’S CRICKET: Ireland will take on Scotland in their second 50-over World Cup qualifying match in Bulawayo tomorrow with their prospects of reaching the finals in India in tatters after a five wicket defeat to Oman on Monday. George Dockrell top-scored for the Irish with 91 not out as they posted 281-7 before Mohammed Nadeem steered the Omanis home with 11 balls to spare. Scotland’s second game will be against the UAE on Friday.
SPEEDWAY: Steve Worrall scored 14+1 as Wolverhampton thumped Sheffield 52-38 in the second leg of the Premiership Cup semi final but that wasn’t enough to overturn their first leg deficit and Sheffield made it through with a 92-88 aggregate win. They will face either Peterborough or Ipswich in September’s final. Monday’s league action saw table-topping Belle Vue thump bottom club Peterborough 55-35 and Leicester win 47-43 at King’s Lynn.
WOMEN’S HOCKEY: Britain will face bottom of the table USA in their final FIH Pro-League fixture tomorrow night in London. They are unable to qualify for the tournament’s knock-out stages after suffering a 4-1 defeat to Germany on Monday evening. Britain were 2-0 down after just six minutes to a German team that had also beaten them three days earlier and were unable to escape another loss despite Ellie Rayer’s goal in the second quarter.
MEN’S FOOTBALL: The European Under 21 Championship kicks off in Tbilisi and Bucharest tomorrow evening with co-hosts Georgia taking on Portugal and Ukraine meeting Croatia. Tomorrow night’s other fixtures see Belgium up against the Netherlands and co-hosts Romania playing Spain. England begin their campaign against Czechia in Batumi on Thursday before current champions Germany face Israel, Norway play Switzerland and France take on Italy.
