Blacklist campaigns take fight to Kier’s Plymouth office

ANTI-BLACKLIST campaigners will today demonstrate outside the offices of a key firm involved in the practice.

General union GMB will protest at 11am at the Plymouth offices of construction firm Kier, whose former boss Danny O’Sullivan was involved in blacklisting.

Blacklisting was exposed in 2009 when government officials raided the offices of the Consulting Association and seized records identifying 3,213 construction workers and environmental activists used by 44 companies to blacklist union and health and safety activists.

GMB said Mr O’Sullivan was the main contact between Kier and the Consulting Association which he chaired in 2000-01.

The union’s national officer Justin Bowden said: “Danny O’Sullivan, now retired in the beautiful university city of Durham, might have thought he had got away scot-free, so shedding crocodile tears now for the systematic blacklisting of 3,213 building workers and environmentalists won’t wash, neither will the Nuremberg Defence of ‘just following superior orders’.”
