8.5% pay offer for Co-op staff

Shopworkers trade union Usdaw has negotiated an 8.5 per cent two-year pay increase for 60,000 Co-op retail workers.

The deal, with the Co-operative Employers Association (CEA), will be put to a ballot of Usdaw members.

Usdaw national officer John Gorle said: “This represents a good step forward for staff and we are recommending that they vote for the deal.”

The pay increase applies to food-store shop assistants and supervisors and is worth at least £1,200 per year extra for a full-timer.

“I’m sure that, in the current cost of living crisis, our members will welcome this above-inflation boost to their pay. However, we remain committed to working toward making the Co-operative employers living-wage employers.”

CEA is a collective bargaining body for a number of co-ops.
