GMB members accept Welsh government’s revised NHS pay award

GMB members in Wales have accepted the devolved government’s revised NHS pay award by a two-thirds majority, the health union announced today.

The union pledged to press the Welsh government for further increases to compensate for years of wage freezes.

In the consultative ballot, which closed on Monday, more than 65 per cent of GMB members voted for acceptance on a 60 per cent turnout.

GMB Wales NHS officer Nathan Holman said: “GMB members have voted to accept the offer. However, we recognise many of our members are not happy with the deal.

“We will continue to hold the Welsh government to account by pushing for restorative pay increases.

“It is vital that we bring our members’ pay back up to the levels they would have received had we not had the years of pay freezes.

“GMB union will now meet with the Welsh government and NHS employers to progress and implement the non-pay elements of this deal.”
