COUNCIL car parking wardens in London who are on strike over pay were banned by petty-minded bosses from using toilets in the building they were picketing ahead of Saturday’s coronation extravaganza.
Members of general union GMB working as car parking wardens for Westminster Council in London were on strike last week including on Saturday.
They are employed by private contractor NSL which provides car parking monitoring for councils, airports and other organisations.
On Saturday they were picketing outside Circus House in Little Portland Street in Westminster.
But GMB says that when pickets tried to enter the building last week they were blocked by a manager.
The union said that NSL does not own the building which it said “is not out of bounds for striking workers.”
GMB organiser Alex Etches said: “This is disgraceful and inhumane behaviour from a company that has grown fabulously rich off the public purse.
“Westminster residents will be shocked that their taxes are funding this sort of aggressive and bullying behaviour.
“This company should be looking to de-escalate this dispute in the run-up to the coronation but instead it is going to war with its workers.
“NSL makes tens of millions in profit, because of our members hard work, yet they are being treated like naughty children by bosses.”
NSL describes itself as “Britain’s leading provider of parking enforcement services” and employs 4,000 staff.
At an employment tribunal in 2012 the company was described as “predatory and dishonest.”
The company has been contacted for comment.
