Housing Crisis: Luxury office squatted in protest for homeless

SQUATTERS of a luxury office building next to Buckingham Palace blamed the state for mass homelessness yesterday after launching workshops and a soup kitchen for local rough sleepers.

Two anarchist groups have taken over the Institute of Directors’s former office in Pall Mall as part of a campaign to highlight inequality in Britain.

Around 40 members of the Autonomous Nation of Anarchist Libertarians (Anal) and Squatter and Homeless Autonomy (SHA) entered the fully functional six-storey building on Monday night.

From the occupation, a man going by the name of K told the Star: “We are not looking to the state to ask for handouts or ask for help.

“It was the state that caused these masses of homeless people in the first place.”

The building was chosen due to its size and location.

“It’s highlighting the fact that people don’t have homes, yet there are [empty] buildings. It’s actually the wealthy who are hoarding these massive buildings and just letting them collect dust when they could could be used for a different purpose,” said K.
