UNITED STATES: Donald Trump claimed yesterday to be facing imminent arrest and called on his supporters to protest as a New York grand jury investigates hush money payments to a woman who alleges that she had sexual encounters with the former president.
However, Mr Trump’s lawyer and spokesperson said that there had been no communication from prosecutors.
ECUADOR: A strong earthquake shook the south of the country and northern Peru yesterday, killing at least 15 people, trapping others under rubble and sending rescue teams out into streets littered with debris and fallen power cable.
The US Geological Survey reported an earthquake with a magnitude of about 6.8 centred just off the Pacific coast.
PAKISTAN: Police in the capital Islamabad filed charges today against former prime minister Imran Khan, 17 of his aides and scores of supporters, accusing them of terrorism and several other offences.
Yesterday, Mr Khan’s followers clashed with police outside an Islamabad court where the former prime minister was due to appear in a corruption case.
UNITED NATIONS: The premier UN body fighting for gender equality called at the weekend for wide-ranging efforts to close the gap between men and women in today’s technology-driven world and urged zero tolerance of gender-based violence and harassment online.
In a report, the Commission on the Status of Women recommended a significant increase in investments by the public and private sectors to bridge the gender digital divide.
