JOURNALIST Owen Jones joined student occupiers yesterday as they marked their vice chancellor’s £20,000 monthly cheque with a hundreds-strong party.
University of the Arts London students were joined by Mr Jones and National Union of Students vice-president Piers Telemacque for the pay-day celebrations.
The school’s vice-chancellor Nigel Carrington cashes in a reported £240,000 a year — £100,000 more than the Prime Minister.
One of the university’s buildings has been under occupation for nearly two weeks after campaigners uncovered management plans to slash courses and jobs worth £500,000.
In a statement, organisers of the event said: “It’s the end of the month, which for many people means payday.
“Earning £100,000 more per year than the Prime Minister, we felt that Nigel deserves a proper celebration.”
Speeches by Mr Jones and Mr Telemacque were followed by food and drinks.
