CITY OF LIVERPOOL made it three wins from four matches with a brilliant 4-2 victory at Skelmersdale United on Saturday.
It was a sensational return to his former club for Purps manager Paul McNally and several of his players, and the visitors flew straight out of the blocks to take a firm grip on the points with a 17-minute triple salvo.
First, Jack Hazlehurst opened the scoring in the third minute with a stunning long-range free kick which flew into the top corner before the home goalkeeper could move.
Danny Mitchley then made it two after 16 minutes with a pinpoint header after excellent work from Pete Wylie down the right. A minute later John McGrath made it three with a magnificent curling finish from the right-hand corner of the box.
After the break Karl Clair curled a lovely right-footed effort from distance to put the icing on the cake of an excellent team performance, before Skem got two consolation goals late on, courtesy of Max McCarthy and Ste Milne.
The result sees a resurgent City of Liverpool into 11th in the NPL West table, while Richard Brodie’s struggling Skem side drop into the relegation play-off places.
