LABOUR plans to crack down on blacklisting in construction were welcomed yesterday by the industry’s main union Ucatt.
Labour has also pledged to take action against “gangmasters” who target vulnerable migrant workers for exploitation.
On employment agencies and gangmasters, Labour’s manifesto says a new law will stop bosses undercutting wages, ban recruitment agencies from only hiring overseas workers and extend the Gangmasters Licensing Authority’s brief to crack down on “rogue agencies.”
The manifesto also expresses “complete condemnation” of blacklisting.
Ucatt general secretary Steve Murphy said: “These pledges demonstrate Labour is on the side of construction workers and that a Labour government will act to prevent exploitation and will deliver justice to workers who have been blacklisted.”
