THE Greens will pull Labour to the left if the election delivers a hung Parliament, the party’s sole MP Caroline Lucas vowed yesterday.
Polls show that one person in 20 is considering voting Green on May 7 — up from one in every 100 voters at the 2010 general election.
Asked if Green MPs would support a minority Labour government, Ms Lucas said she would consider their proposals on a case-by-case basis.
“That would give us a real opportunity to push Labour on the policies that we know the public wants and are at the heart of our manifesto,” she said.
Pressed on red-line issues for a deal, Ms Lucas ruled out voting for more cuts to the welfare budget.
But she said: “Let’s see what they’re going to cut. If they’re going to cut spending £100 billion on nuclear weapons, we’re right there with them.
“There are plenty of things we’re very happy to see cut, but we want to do it on a case-by-case basis.”
