COMMUNISTS called yesterday for maximum turnout for tomorrow’s international day of action in support of the people and government of Venezuela.
Pickets will be held outside the US embassy in London and the US Consulate in Edinburgh from 11am, organised by the Co-ordinating Committee of Communist Parties in Britain.
The Communist Party of Venezuela called the April 19 day of action in response to US President Barack Obama’s executive order, declaring that the Latin American nation “a threat to US national security.”
Communist Party of Britain international secretary John Foster said: “Last week the Summit of the Americas in Panama City saw almost all the countries of South America denounce the US action and declare solidarity with Venezuela in the face of the external and internal campaign of economic and political destabilisation.”
The worldwide wave of solidarity is also backed by international organisations including the World Peace Council and the World Federation of Trade Unions.
