Just Stop Oil target luxury car showrooms in central London

MORE Just Stop Oil supporters were arrested today after activists sprayed bright orange paint over the facade of luxury car showrooms Ferrari and Bentley in central London.

Two protesters used fire extinguishers to douse the shop fronts on the corner of Berkeley Square and Bruton Street at around 8.30am.

Metropolitan Police said it had made two arrests in relation to the protest.

Later that day supporters of the group blocked a busy road near Green Park station by sitting on the tarmac.

One of the protesters, Linda Ahtiainen, 23, from Finland, said she decided to join the action over the government’s “completely irresponsible” decision to approved over 100 new oil and gas licences in the North Sea.

“New oil and gas projects are not just unnecessary, but will destroy everything we depend upon and all we hold dear,” she said.

“This campaign of civil resistance is not about any individual or groups of people but about ensuring the survival of humanity.”

Wednesday’s actions follow three weeks of continuous protests by supporters of Just Stop Oil aimed at pressuring the government to halt all new fossil fuel projects. Police have made 587 arrests.
