Met officer charged after woman killed in police car collision

A METROPOLITAN police officer has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving after a woman was run over and killed by a police car in south London.

Shante Daniel-Folkes, 25, was hit by a police vehicle driven by PC Nadeem Patel on Stockwell Road, Brixton, on June 9 last year.

The young woman died at the scene.

The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) said PC Patel, 27, had been responding to a 999 call at the time of the collision.

The Met officer is accused of causing death by dangerous driving, the police watchdog said on Tuesday.

Another officer, PC Gary Thompson, 30, who was driving a separate police vehicle and responding to the same call, has been charged with dangerous driving.

The pair are due to appear at Westminster Magistrates Court on Monday October 17.

The charges were made following an IOPC investigation into the fatal collision, which concluded in May this year.
