No-show Cameron fails to impress Citizens UK

TORY Cabinet minister Sajid Javid was forced to apologise yesterday for David Cameron’s no show at a rally staged by community organising charity Citizens UK.

The Culture Secretary said he was “sorry” but could not give a reason why the Prime Minister could not attend the gathering of more than 2,200 voters at Westminster Central Hall.

Many attendees accused him of ducking the event, which he addressed before the 2010 general election.

Mr Javid was also heckled when he refused to commit to putting a limit on the time that migrants can be detained, a central policy of the Citizens UK manifesto.

Ed Miliband won huge applause when he said Labour would impose a limit.

The manifesto also calls for a living wage for all public-sector workers.

Mr Miliband did not make a pledge, but told “all the low-paid workers in this audience” that “your cause is my cause.”
