A teenager pleaded not guilty to charges of religious hatred and posting obscene images of Margaret Thatcher yesterday in a Singapore court.
Sixteen-year-old Amos Yee Pang Sang is on trial for posting an internet video in which he attacked Christians and Singapore’s founding prime minister Lee Kuan Yew, who died in March.
Mr Yee faces charges of intending to wound the religious feelings of Christians and transmitting an obscene image over the internet of Mr Lee and Thatcher.
A third charge, making offensive remarks against Mr Lee, was temporarily withdrawn.
In an eight-minute clip that was posted on YouTube in March, Yee said that Mr Lee and Jesus Christ were “both power-hungry and malicious,” among other derogatory comments mostly targeting the former prime minister.
Mr Yee faces a jail sentence of up to three years or a fine if convicted. The trial was adjourned until today.
