A Long Way Down (15)
Directed by Pascal Chaumeil
2 Stars
Based upon Nick Hornby's novel, A Long Way Down opens with Pierce Brosnan carrying a ladder to the top of a tower block to take the plunge.
He's a convicted paedophile, soon to be joined by Rosamund Pike, who's depressed about cuts in welfare, Imogen Poots as an MP's daughter and Aaron Paul as a failed musician.
Obviously referencing current political concerns and the media hounds who in this case claim to have seen an angel, the film swings between satire and schmaltz before plunging to a farcical finale.
