FEMINISTS were left furious yesterday when Ofcom revealed that no action would be taken against a BBC radio presenter who defended convicted rapist Ched Evans, writes Alana MacAskill.
BBC Radio Norfolk’s Nick Conrad made the comments during an on-air discussion about the former Sheffield United striker.
“If you don’t wish to give out the wrong signals, it’s best, probably, to keep your knickers on,” Mr Conrad said.
More than 1,000 people have signed a petition calling on the BBC to sack the presenter.
“We believe that perpetuating rape myths and victim-blaming is damaging to society and are an insult to victims,” said petition creator Kirsty Strickland.
Following its investigation, Ofcom said that while it found Mr Conrad’s views “offensive,” it was satisfied with the BBC’s attempts to limit the offence.
But writing on the petition, Helena Henriksson asked: “Why employ a misogynistic bully who perpetuates rape myths and blames victims?”
