THE president of the General Federation of Trade Unions warned yesterday that Britain was on the drift to a “dictatorship” under Tories, writes Paul Donavan.
John Fray warned the Tories would “now be full of confidence and feeling free once again to target trade unions with deliberate intention to legally restrict our members’ rights to take action to protect and improve their terms and conditions.”
He also highlighted Tory plans to scrap the Human Rights Act and “gerrymander” constituency boundaries to help the party’s re-election in 2020.
Mr Fray said: “These are actions which put together in other countries we would be condemning as the behaviour of a dictatorship.
“The GFTU must make sure we’re on the platform,” said Mr Fray. “Trade unions — big or small — have a right to a voice and a vision.”
