Recycling bosses ‘bully disabled staff’

RECYCLING workers locked in an 11-month dispute with a Yorkshire profiteer over wages and conditions are being subjected to appalling bullying by bosses, their union GMB said yesterday.

The Green Co runs five recycling centres on behalf of Sheffield City Council.

After taking over the work in July last year it withdrew the living wage, cancelled bonuses and threatened the dismissal of anyone resisting with industrial action.

The 26-strong workforce includes several people with learning difficulties.

According to GMB, one worker with learning difficulties was shouted at and abused by a manager last week and one centre’s entire workforce were lined up and verbally abused in front of members of the public using the centre.

GMB has accused the council of dragging its feet over

an investigation into what is going on.

Trade unionists will stage a solidarity rally at 1pm tomorrow outside Shirecliffe recycling depot in Douglas Road, Sheffield.
