Shadow cabinet door open for Miliband

ANDY BURNHAM left the door open for Ed Miliband’s return to the shadow cabinet yesterday despite criticising his leadership.

The frontrunner to replace Mr Miliband after he failed to dislodge David Cameron from No 10 claimed Labour had “got it wrong on business” and been “too easy” on benefit claimants.

But he described Mr Miliband as “somebody who I respect greatly, who I am very close to.”

The Star revealed in November how Mr Burnham foiled an attempted coup against Mr Miliband’s leadership by right-wing MPs.

And yesterday he said: “The Labour Party would always have room for him to contribute in whatever way he chose was right.”

Mr Burnham comments came as former Labour spin doctor Bob Roberts launched a defence of Mr Miliband.

“In the end, a lot of people thought Ed had a decent campaign,” he told the BBC Daily Politics. “Ed came across as exactly who he was.”

He added: “There was a social and political revolution in Scotland which neither Ed Miliband nor the Labour Party could do anything about.”
