Vaz: Passport Office bonuses should pay back delay costs

Passport Office bonuses should be diverted to compensate travellers caught up in chaotic delays this summer Labour MP Keith Vaz said yesterday.

He it was wrong that officials were due to receive £674,000 in bonus payouts while customers had been forced to pay more than £100 each to switch to a speedier process to avoid missing out on holidays.

It was only after the severity of the delays emerged that applicants booked to travel within seven days, whose applications had been with the Passport Office for longer than three weeks, were offered a free upgrade to the fast-track service.
