Hebden Bridge Trades Club to host Palestine action week

LEGENDARY venue The Trades Club in Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire, is to stage an annual week of action in support of the people of Palestine.

The decision was taken at a half-yearly general meeting of the club, though a date is yet to be set for the first week, when the flag of Palestine will be flown at the club.

The Trades Club was built in 1924 as a centre of organisation, education and recreation for thousands of textile and tailoring trades unionists in the Calder Valley.

Although the industries have disappeared the club continues as a musical venue and centre of political activity, including fund-raising benefits which include Palestine solidarity and the Morning Star.

The club is for the second time a finalist in the Small Venue of the Year category in an annual competition staged by the NME.
