ScotRail workers set for Cop26 strike action

SCOTRAIL workers continued their pay justice battle as the union confirmed further action yesterday.

Rail union RMT said ScotRail members were standing firm in their campaign, which has now been going on for well over seven months.

A lack of agreement and satisfactory offer from ScotRail has left Scots with little to no rail service each Sunday since March, with further action now being planned for November during Cop26.

The calls come after a protest outside Glasgow Queen Street station last week during a ministerial visit which brought together various rail unions and Labour MSPs.

RMT general secretary Mick Lynch said: “Our members are standing firm across Scotland again in this ongoing fight for workplace justice.

“We have had no option but to confirm further strike action by our conductor members right through to the end of November.

“It’s about time those calling the shots in Scotland took responsibility for Britain’s longest-running industrial dispute which is over the basic issue of pay equality on ScotRail.

“With Cop26 looming large it’s time to settle this dispute which shames Scotland.”

A ScotRail spokesman said they will continue to engage unions, calling for workers, management and the government to work together.
