Labour lays into Tories for failing to stop World Cup touts

Hours after Rugby World Cup ballot finished some tickets on sale for nearly 300 times original price

LABOUR accused ministers of complicity in the rip-off of rugby fans yesterday after the government failed to act on ticket touting for next year’s World Cup.

Shadow sports minister Clive Efford said Labour had offered to co-operate with the Con-Dems to get touting outlawed for the tournament after the same style as the 2012 London Olympics.

“Despite our warnings, tickets for the final are now on sale through the secondary market for up to £2,600,” he said.

“The organisers are to be commended for their efforts, but their hands have been tied by this government’s refusal to prevent ticket touting.

“The government must now act to ensure that the organisers are given details of any ticket being resold, so they can cancel those being listed outside of their terms and conditions.”

Hours after 2015 organisers completed their hugely oversubscribed ballot for tickets some tickets were on sale for nearly 300 times their original price.
