Gray left bemused and angry after draw

Sheffield Wednesday manager not pleased with refereeing display, writes TASHAM DENIRAN-ALLEYNE

Sheffield Wednesday manager Stuart Gray was left frustrated with two decisions that went against his side in the 1-1 draw against Charlton Athletic at the Valley on Saturday afternoon.

Gray felt the Owls should have been awarded a late penalty and also questioned whether Igor Vetokele’s equaliser should have stood:

“There was no need for Atdhe Nuhiu to go down,” he said. “His next thought was to get a shot off, I think Andre Bikey has made an error. 2,000 Sheffield Wednesday fans are appealing for the penalty, so I don’t think they’re wrong.

“I’m just disappointed, I feel as if we’ve thrown two points away. We probably dominated the first half with better attempts at goal, second half we were slow to get going and we were poor in possession.

“It’s two big decisions in both boxes that we didn’t get, one being the penalty and one being the offside for (their) goal.”

Royston Drenthe fired Wednesday ahead midway through the first half with an excellent individual effort.

But the hosts improved after the break, Chris Solly’s 30-yard pile-driver flew just over the bar, before top-scorer Vetokele equalised with his seventh of the season.
