Train drivers’ union Aslef warned yesterday that transport services at July’s Commonwealth Games in Glasgow will be disrupted if rail bosses continue to stall on bonus talks.

Aslef wants one-off bonus payments for work involved in providing extra services for spectators at the games, which will cause inevitable knock-on effects across the rail network.

Aslef Scottish secretary Kevin Lindsay said: “If we don’t reach a settlement, ScotRail will have difficulty running their services during the games.

“The last thing that we want is to hold Scotland’s Commonwealth Games to ransom. All we are looking for is a fair share.”

A meeting on Thursday failed to resolve the issue which has been under negotiation since last year.

Transport Scotland said a funding package with ScotRail for extra services was close to agreement.

A ScotRail spokesperson said: “We are making progress and are due to meet again in a couple of weeks with the trade unions.”

But Mr Lindsay said: “We would have hoped to have put this to bed months ago.”
