Orgreave Truth and Justice campaigners have won a meeting with the head of the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) over the long delay on whether an investigation is going to be held into the police attack on miners’ strike pickets.
The campaign was launched two years ago and within weeks South Yorkshire Police referred itself to the IPCC in Yorkshire, which has since begun a “scoping exercise” to decide whether an investigation should take place.
Otjc campaigners will demonstrate in protest at the IPCC headquarters in London on Friday next week, November 15.
Ipcc national chairwoman Dame Anne Owers has agreed to meet a delegation on Friday.
Otjc secretary Barbara Jackson said: “This is good news, showing that the Orgreave campaign is being taken seriously. We need to use the meeting to strongly reiterate our concerns and to seek a deadline.”
