NHS: GMB Scotland has confirmed that its members working in the NHS have voted to reject the Scottish government’s 4 per cent pay offer.

The union said thousands of its members have knocked back the pay rise. It is now returning to ask the government to make another offer. 

The union said that the offer “doesn’t restore the damage done to pay and conditions after a decade of disastrous political austerity.” 

ENERGY: Environmental campaigners have criticised SSE’s plans to add carbon-capture & storage technology in an attempt to delay the closure of Peterhead gas power station.

Friends of the Earth Scotland said that relying on the technology risks Scotland missing climate targets.

Campaigner Jess Cowell said: “Energy giants like SSE should be involving their workers and affected communities in planning for a proper transition away from fossil-fuelled energy production in the north-east.” 

EDUCATION: Scotland’s largest union for teachers and lecturers has suspended strike action at a college in an “act of good faith.” 

The Educational Institute of Scotland’s (EIS) programme of strike action at Forth Valley college has been put on hold to allow for a review of the dispute. 

The decision follows a national agreement struck two weeks ago over the downgrading of a number of lecturing posts to lower-graded and lesser-paid positions.
