Dockers send solidarity to US

ITF backs longshoremen

Dockworkers' union reps from across the world have backed US longshoremen's fight for fair terms and conditions.

Reps gathered in London on Wednesday, hearing of fraught talks between dockers' union ILWU and the Pacific Maritime Association (PMA).

PMA has publicly accused the union of "crippling" the 29 US west coast ports covered.

International Transport Workers Federation president and dockers' section chairman Paddy Crumlin said: "These negotiations are massively significant. They're too important for dirty tricks.

"The ILWU understands and respects this. It seems the PMA doesn't.

"Dockworkers' unions worldwide have pledged to offer solidarity to the ILWU by any and all legal means available."
