South Yorkshire Police (SYP) caved in to pressure yesterday to release five boxes of documentary evidence relating to the Orgreave scandal.
The Independent Police Complaints Commission threatened legal action this week unless the evidence is released.
IPCC chairwoman Ann Owers was spurred into action following a meeting with Orgreave Truth and Justice Campaign leaders in London last Friday.
The IPCC threatened to use its section 17 powers unless the material was released "by the end of this week.
SYP told the Morning Star last Sunday that it "did not physically possess these documents," claiming that they were with the force's former insurers.
But yesterday SYP told the Morning Star: "We have worked with the Independent Police Complaints Commission and arrangements are now in place for the IPCC to gain access to the documents."
For two years Orgreave Truth and Justice Campaign has been waiting for the IPCC to decide if an investigation should be carried out into the police action at Orgreave.
The IPCC is expected to issue a report in January.
