Close race sees Irish Premiership crowds surge

Attendances are up 12.9 per cent in the Irish Premiership and the competitive race for this season’s title saw new leaders again at the weekend.

Portadown moved top after winning 3-2 at Crusaders while champions Cliftonville slipped up 2-0 at Coleraine.

Linfield claimed second after beating Ballymena 3-2. A late penalty ensured that Warrenpoint and Dungannon shared six goals in the bottom of the table clash.

Glentoran beat Ballinamallard 3-1 and Glenavon drew 1-1 with Institute.
