PO cash carriers won’t walk for bosses

STAFF who transport cash to and from 11,500 post offices will walk out on strike today.

The 1,500 Communication Workers Union (CWU) workers are angry that bosses of publicly owned Post Office Ltd want to shed more than 20 per cent of staff in its administration and supply chain, including potential compulsory redundancies.

Talks between the CWU and Post Office Ltd over the last two weeks ended yesterday without agreement.

CWU deputy general secretary Dave Ward said: “The workers distributing cash to over 11,500 Post Office branches put themselves in danger every day in order to do their jobs and it is appalling that they have the very real threat of compulsory redundancy hanging over them. By getting rid of such a significant part of the workforce, it would be incredibly difficult for the Post Office to continue its current level of service in this area.”
