LAST week’s postbag was an encouraging £2,365 but we need a big uptick in donations to reach our target and keep the Morning Star on the news-stands.
“We cannot manage without the daily miracle,” sent a couple from Sheffield with an amazing £1,000.
Likewise, we cannot manage without the generosity of our readers.
A big high five to the Ayrshire comrade who sent the 400 quid. He’s saved on rail fares during lockdown, and to the 501 Club winner from Skelmersdale who returned her £25 prize.
Thanks also to the reader from Cardiff who sent £90 for the 90 years of the Morning Star, and to the Southampton People’s Assembly for £50.
What other paper has readers like ours? Not The Sun, that’s for sure.
In Liverpool, they’re still boycotting that vile Murdoch rag in honour of the 96 who lost their lives at Hillsborough, so I was delighted to receive a £500 cheque from a reader across the Mersey.
A citizen of the former GDR (East Germany) sent me a black and white film of a 1970’s English lesson, featuring “Peggy from the Morning Star.”
In the film, a young man asks Peggy out to the cinema but she replies: “I’m sorry, I must go home this evening. You know I’m working for the Morning Star. I’ve got to write something about Karl Marx.”
Have you recently missed a date because of lockdown or commitment to the class struggle? Has scientific socialism ever derailed your love life? If so, please send me your story… and the money you saved on cinema tickets and popcorn.
Finally, this Wednesday sees the Grand Depart of the Pedal4Progress cycle ride in aid of the Morning Star. Chapeau to the Swindon reader for sending £200 and merci beaucoup to the couple in Market Harborough for their forty pounds.
Ring a bell for socialism! Keep those wheels a-turning and send a little more each day!
