AN anti-racism campaigner will stand trial next year after appearing at the Old Bailey for allegedly expressing support for Hamas.
It is claimed that Black Lives Matter activist Kwabena Devonish made the statement outside the UK government offices in Cardiff at a Gaza rally supporting Palestinians in November 2023.
The 26-year-old from Pentrebane, Cardiff, denies expressing an opinion or belief that was supportive of a proscribed organisation.
Supporters rallied outside the Old Bailey in London last Friday as Ms Devonish entered a not guilty plea.
Stop the War Coalition’s Lindsey German joined the protesters outside the court and said: “I support the Justice for Kwabena campaign because I think that’s what the police and the politicians are trying to do is to criminalise all sorts of forms of protest, particularly for Palestine.”
The next hearing in the case will be in Bristol Crown Court on January 17 and the full trial will start on August 18 in the same court.
