KENYA: One person was killed as some Kenyans angered by the rising cost of living went back into the streets today in the latest of a series of protests.

Some protesters in the capital, Nairobi, burned tyres and dismantled part of an entrance to a recently built expressway.

In the town of Emali, on the highway between Nairobi and the port city of Mombasa, one protester was killed and a police car was set on fire, according to a local police official.

SUDAN: The conflict in Sudan has driven around 3.1 million people from their homes, including more than 700,000 who fled to neighbouring countries, the United Nations said today.

This comes amid growing concerns that the country is sliding into a full-scale civil war.

More than 2.4 million people have reportedly fled their homes and around 738,000 others have crossed into neighbouring countries, the International Organisation for Migration said.

AFGHANISTAN: The Afghan Taliban say they have suspended all the activities of Swedish organisations in the country in response to the recent burning of Islam’s holy book in Stockholm.

The Swedish Committee for Afghanistan, which provides education and medical facilities to thousands of people across the country, said it was seeking clarification from the Taliban.

UNITED STATES: United States special presidential envoy for climate John Kerry will travel to Beijing next week to discuss strategies for limiting global warming.

The latest visit to China by a senior US politician comes on the heels of visits by Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen this week and last month by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken.
