Man City manager Pep Guardiola has hailed his team’s performance as they pasted Watford 6-0 away to go top of the Premier League.
Guardiola’s side gave Watford, fourth at kick-off, a harsh reality check, in a game they dominated from start to finish.
They made a bright beginning and broke the deadlock after 27 minutes when Aguero headed in from a free-kick on the left-hand side.
The Argentinian doubled his and his side’s goal tally for the afternoon barely three minutes later when he tapped in David Silva’s cutback into an empty net.
A third goal was added by Gabriel Jesus before the break and City’s dominance didn’t abate in the second half.
Nicolas Otamendi headed in from a corner shortly after the hour mark and Aguero completed his hat-trick with little over 10 minutes remaining.
Raheem Sterling got the last goal of the game in the 89th minute from the penalty spot to round off City’s second big win in a row after last weekend’s 5-0 drubbing of Liverpool.
Guardiola was full of praise for his side’s efforts. “We played really good, it’s always complicated after Champions League away,” he said.
Watford “have a top manager but from the beginning we attacked really good. We played a good performance and we are very happy for what we’ve done this week.
“Sergio showed how good he is. A hat-trick is not easy but he did it and he deserves all the credit.
“It’s not easy to keep this momentum. I am very curious as to how we will react after scoring 15 goals in three games. I hope we can keep this team spirit.
“We are much more stable than last year. We know each other better and the right pieces make us better. We have a good team spirit.”
Watford boss Miguel Britos, however, was left rueing errors from his team and the officials, but insisted Watford will learn from the defeat.
“This is not a good afternoon for us and it’s important to understand what happened. City deserved the three points but the first goal was offside, the second we made mistakes and the third was also offside.
“It’s a good match for us to learn. City are in a really good place and when you play a team like this you can suffer. To compete at this level we need to keep our focus. It was a good day to learn and I hope everybody does.”
