INDONESIA: Rescuers continued searching today for 42 missing people after two landslides triggered by torrential rains hit villages on an island in the remote Natuna regency the day before.

Dozens of soldiers, police and volunteers joined the search for 42 people reportedly trapped when 27 houses were buried under tons of mud from the surrounding hills.

MEXICO: Authorities have found 343 migrants, including 103 unaccompanied minors, in an abandoned freight container by the side of a highway.

The National Immigration Institute said on Monday that the trailer was found in the state of Veracruz on Sunday night.

The migrants were in good health and it was unclear why the driver fled, authorities said.

SOUTH AFRICA: President Cyril Ramaphosa has appointed Kgosientso Ramokgopa as his new electricity minister.

Mr Ramokgopa will focus on dealing with the crippling power cuts that have affected the country.

In a cabinet reshuffle on Monday, Mr Ramaphosa also announced a new deputy president, Paul Mashatile, and sacked Lindiwe Sisulu, who had challenged him for the leadership of the African National Congress, from the post of tourism minister.

PERU: Activists in the provinces of Canchis and Espinar in the Cusco department have restarted protests demanding the resignation of President Dina Boluarte.

During a meeting in Apurimac on Monday, the Espinar Cusco provincial struggle committee and other grassroots organisations agreed to resume strikes against the ousting of elected president Pedro Castillo in December.

The Front of Puno Popular Organisations labelled Ms Boluarte an enemy of Peruvians, alleging that her regime was responsible for the murder of 21 people in that area.
