MEXICO: Investigators looking into the murder of 43 teaching students in 2014 have named General Jose Rodriguez as a suspect.

A Truth Commission official said that six of the students were held in a warehouse for several days before being turned over to the then-colonel, who killed and “disappeared” them.

It is the strongest evidence yet unearthed about Mexican military involvement in the disappearances.

VENEZUELA: Colombia’s new ambassador-designate Armando Benedetti arrived in Caracas on Sunday to normalise diplomatic relations broken three years ago.

“Relations with Venezuela should never have been broken. We are brothers and an imaginary line cannot separate us, much less a policy of the state,” said Mr Benedetti in a video uploaded to his Twitter account.

AVIATION: Air France has suspended two pilots after a bout of mid-air fisticuffs, the airline said today.

The June altercation started shortly after taking off from Geneva, with one pilot hitting the other after grabbing each other’s collars.

Crew intervened and ensured the plane landed safely.

CHINA: Authorities have arrested 28 people and started a corruption probe after a group of women were attacked in Tangshan in June.

A group of men, allegedly part of a gang, attacked four women in a restaurant after one had his advances rebuffed.

The slow police response raised concerns that corruption was involved.
