THOUSANDS of mourners gathered in Islamabad on Thursday to mark the death of Pakistani journalist Arshad Sharif.
More than 15,000 mourners gathered for Mr Sharif’s funeral at the country’s Faisal Mosque in Islamabad
Mr Sharif was killed on Sunday when the car he was a passenger in drove through a checkpoint outside Nairobi in Kenya.
His killing has drawn widespread condemnation in Pakistan.
Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah Khan has said the Pakistani government will send a team of civilian investigators to Kenya to investigate the death.
Police in Kenya’s capital initially expressed regret over the incident, saying it was a case of “mistaken identity.”
Later, police said someone opened fire from Mr Sharif’s car, wounding a police officer, while officers shot back killing Mr Sharif in the process.
Mr Sharif’s last employer, the private ARY Television in Pakistan, sacked him in August, saying he had violated the TV station’s social media policy.
The slain journalist was a vocal supporter of ousted prime minister Imran Khan.
Marking the first time that the head of Pakistan’s spy network has taken part in a news conference, Nadeem Ahmed Anjum told reporters: “There should be an impartial and transparent investigation into this whole matter.”
