VENEZUELAN President Nicolas Maduro reiterated his commitment to a peaceful dialogue ahead of proposed talks in Norway next week while warning of opposition plans to undermine his country.
“I want to ratify the commitment of the Bolivarian government that I preside over, and that of the revolutionary forces, with the dialogue of Norway and the construction of a permanent table of dialogue and solutions,” he said.
Venezuela has faced a US-backed attempted coup led by the president of the defunct National Assembly Juan Guaido.
The would-be usurper, who declared himself the country’s interim leader in January, has refused to participate in the latest proposed talks.
Meanwhile Washington has shifted its attention to another oil-rich country, escalating tensions in the Middle East by threatening military intervention against Iran.
Mr Maduro said his government was opening “all the doors for political dialogue with all leaders and political factions of the opposition.”
“Let’s go through a single path: the path of the constitution, understanding, dialogue, of overcoming problems without foreign interventionism,” he said.
He appealed for support from his people in achieving “a great agreement of understanding and peace, dialogue and democracy for Venezuela.”
The Bolivarian leader said that despite the attacks Venezuela remains “at a great stage of the historical and heroic battle for freedom.”
